Starting up a blog?
dudes and dudettes, due to the recent hype of setting personal blogs, here's a rough guide as to how to set up a blog: (ps: i'm no expert and i think i may say the wrong things, correct me if i'm wrong okay!)

1. go to http://www.blogger.com/
2. sign up as member
3. log in
4. in the dasbboard, you'll see posting, settings, template.
5. click on any to make the corresponding change
6. if you wanna write new post, click on the 'new post' and start writing in the box
7. after you're done, click 'publish post' and your new post will appear in your blog
8. if you wanna change the settings of the blog, click on settings in the dasboard. you can find the dashboard link on the top right hand corner of the page
9. say if you choose to keep your blog a private one, you can do so in the settings under the permission tab. you can choose who to view your blog or who to contribute to your blog etc.
10. say if you wanna add chatter box or music at the sidebar of your blog, go to template
11. under the template, there's a box which contains a lot of characters like this: <> it is the html code
12. so if you wanna add chatter box, look for the #div sidebar and note down the characters that follow. usually it's h1. but it may differ depending on your blog template, it maybe h2 or h3 or some other characters. note it down because you'll need to look for it later
13. scroll down the box and look for [!-- Begin .post --]. (please note that i've replace <> with[ ]. if i type <>, it'll appear as html code and it won't display properly in the article. so every time you see this [ ], please remember to replace it back with <> in your template)
14. that is when the settings for your blog begin. scroll down further and look for
.this is when your sidebar title starts
15. say you wanna add chatter box, you can type
Chatter Box
and the title Chatter Box will then appear in the sidebar.
16. now you'll need to get the chatter box proper. a lot of websites do offer free chatter box. for example, the chatter box in this blog is hosted by http://www.cbox.ws/
17. you can go to the website and sign up as member. thereafter, you'll be given the html code.
18. copy the code and paste it after the line
Chatter Box
19. so in summary, your html code should look something like this
Chatter Box
[!-- BEGIN CBOX - http://www.cbox.ws/ --][div align="center" id="cboxdiv"].............[!-- END CBOX --]
20. save the template changes and go to your blog and check if the chatterbox appear in the blog.
21. you can do other modifications in the template settings like choosing where you want the chatterbox to appear, how the title of the chatter box should appear etc
22. it's pretty much the same process if you wanna add music to your blog
23. find some website that host the music files. some website do not require sign up whereas others do. copy the html code given and paste it at the sidebar and voila! you'll have the music in your blog playing in no time!
24. let say you wanna link up to your friend's blog, say for example loo's blog, you'll need to type the following in the side bar
Friend's Blog
[li][a href="http://www.loo1984.blogspot.com"]Loo[/a]
25. Only the word 'loo' will appear in your blog sidebar with the link to http://www.loo.1984.blogspot.com/ if you click on the word 'loo'
26. like wise you just keep adding the [li][a href="your friend's blog website"]Your friend's name[/a] to link up other friend's blog address
27. personally, i feel setting up the blog and playing around with the blog settings is more of a process of trial and error. you'll need to experiment with the settings to get the hang of it. there's only so much i can tell you but you'll need to try it by yourself.
28. therefore, always save your template before you make any modifications. in case anything goes wrong, you still have the backup copy and you can always revert to the preceeding template and undo the damage.
29. i don't think this is a very comprehensive guide. i feel i have complicated a lot of things by explaining more and more
30. hence, to cut the long story short, if you can't understand any of my point, you can always go here: http://tips-for-new-bloggers.blogspot.com/ and find any help topics you need. it's quite a good guide for new bloggers like us.

it's my attempt to help you all. I don't mind if you don't understand any of my point at all, cos i think html code is something too complicated for non-techy people like me. perhaps the IT professionals can enlighten us. I'm just so glad that i didn't take computing or programming course for that matter. I give my sincere salutation to the programmers. there's truth in stereotyping programmers as geeky people. hahahhaaha..... :) :) :)
